Association „Oleru manor” in cooperation with Rujienas municipality Multifunctional youth initiative center, association „Mazsalacas development projects”, the association „Rujienas municipality family support Centre “Varpina”, Camphill village „Rozkalni” and Camphill Village Trust of Norway has implemented project “Traditional valuesand new skills-for sustainable development of society” (No 2012 .EEZ / PP / 1 / MEC / 173)under the European Economic Financial Mechanism 2009-2014 in the programme „NGO Fund” and the sub-programme „NGO project measure”.
During the period from January 2014 to February 2015 a lot of activities have been implemented. There have been seminars, workshops, study tours and traditional seasonal celebrations in Rujiena, Burtnieki and Mazsalaca municipalities. In meantime English language training course and computer animation classwere organized. There were also support class forparents to promote parenting skills, traditions and professional knowledge. Looks like a set of different activities within one project, but the essence of it is simple: about the importance of education, our life skills and values and ways we are passing them to future generations.
Classes of the most interest were those ofhealthy lifestyle, gardening and English language. Young people created short storytelling animation videos, practiced in career development activities, voluntary work and had experience in Latvian traditional dance classes leaded by Ilga Reizniece.
Project was concluded by University of Latvia professor in ethno musicology Valdis Muktupavels musical lecture « So usual, but also mystical sound tools in Latvia. »
As a quintessence of the project, one could say that during rediscoveringforgottenknowledgeand skills of earlier generations we all empoweredfamilytradition and came to new challenges in the bordertownswith they specificenvironment.
